Research Coordinator (110826)

Category:
Level I exempt Staff, 12 months, full time, 40 hours per week. 

Responsibilities: Administration of proposals and research grants for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, conference organization, liaison with university personnel and government agencies.

Specific responsibilities include: various aspects of proposal preparation including preparation and review of proposal budgets, reviewing new research contracts, setting up accounting system for monitoring and reporting on contracts, help with preparation of reports for principal investigators following contract guidelines and university procedures, organizing and preparing all aspects of conferences and workshops, liaison with university and agency personnel regarding research contracts, and providing assistance with purchasing of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications:  B.S. degree or equivalent combination of experience, with a minimum of two years of administrative experience.  Excellent customer service skills required including effective written and oral communication skills.  Ability to work independently and to exercise good judgment.  Prefer experience in university setting.  Computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Computational Neuroscience – Tenure-Track Faculty

The Neuroscience and Cognitive Science program (NACS) at the University of Maryland is seeking a new tenure-track faculty member, at the assistant professor level. Computational neuroscientists working in any areas including sensory and motor physiology, analysis of control systems, and cognitive neuroscience will be considered. The successful candidate will hold a joint appointment in both the NACS Program and an academic department. The department of tenure will depend on the research interests of the faculty member and may be in Biology, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Hearing and Speech Sciences, Kinesiology, Linguistics, or Psychology. NACS is a tightly integrated community of scholars focused on aspects of neuroscience and cognitive science. Many faculty also enjoy highly productive research collaborations with scientists at federal agencies in the Washington DC area such as the NIH.

Responsibilities: Candidates will be expected to develop a vigorous extramurally-funded research program. Teaching duties will include a graduate-level course in computational neuroscience, as well as undergraduate/graduate courses to be determined by the tenure-track department. Duties will also include student advising and administration as determined by the Director of NACS and the department of tenure.

Qualifications: An earned doctorate in a discipline relevant to the candidate’s field of teaching
and research is required. Candidates who integrate theoretical with experimental research are preferred. We seek candidates with demonstrated teaching and research excellence capable of maintaining an extramurally-funded research program. Details of the NACS program may be found at www.nacs.umd.edu.

Master’s Program in Telecommunications - Graduate Assistantship (GA)

Position Description
Under the direction and supervision of the Master’s Program in Telecommunications (ENTS) staff, the Graduate Assistant will provide high level support in all areas of program work. The qualified student will be comfortable in varied professional and academic environments and will be flexible and able to effectively deal with changing priorities and interruptions. At times the GA will lead the planning of initiatives to include program enhancement, public relations, marketing, industry outreach and student/ alumni affairs. ENEE and ENTS graduate students are NOT eligible to apply due to confidentiality issues. Specific duties include:

1. Administrative Support - Managing administrative duties will include responding to email, phone calls and in-person inquires; providing basic student advising; managing the application process, student and constituent communications; filing and typing. Must possess superior customer service skills to excel in student, alumni and staff interfacing.

2. Website Maintenance- Basic editing of the program’s website. Uploading student profiles, special events and other relevant information. Ability to create basic forms and web surveys.

3. Technical Support- Must possess general technical savvy and aptitude. Will assist program staff with software, database, PC issues, etc, correspond with technical support teams; troubleshoot hardware and software in ENTS office.

4. Communications - Assist in the production and distribution of marketing material such as brochures, fliers, media packets and direct ads; implementing an online brochure; corresponding with university and non-university vendors from creation to shipment of marketing materials. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

5. Event Planning - Assist with the strategies and development of program events, such as professional networking events, alumni events, career placement events (career fairs, industry seminars, socials, etc.). Must be detail-oriented; possess strong follow-through skills and the ability to think creatively.

6. Research- Assist with the collection of information via internet and other sources in relation to program enhancement; communicate with students, applicants and business professionals for market research purposes; develop hardcopy and online surveys.

Qualifications: Must be enrolled in a UMCP graduate program. Ability to interact with a diverse group of graduate students in a professional manner is important; excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage shifting priorities is required. Technical know-how is preferred.
