The Clark School's Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2008. The electrical engineering curriculum was established at the University of Maryland College Park campus in the fall of 1908. The Department launched its ECE Centennial celebrations on Monday, November 26, 2007, with an Alumni & IEEE GlobeCom Networking Reception at the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building, which attracted nearly 200 guests.
The Department hosted the ECE Centennial Celebration Weekend on September 26-27, 2008, which included an alumni reception, Centennial Forum events featuring a range of experts from industry, academia, and research laboratories on The Future of Information Systems and Communications and The Future of Energy. The celebration weekend ended with a Centennial Gala event at the Riggs Alumni Center, featuring Inventor Dean Kamen. The weekend events attracted nearly 400 guests.
