A "Transforming Energy" Lecture by Cynthia Lundgren
November 4, 2011

Abstract

The requirement for power and energy in a rapidly modernized, highly digital and network‑centric Army is growing exponentially. In addition to the ongoing demand for improved Soldier portable power sources, the need for more electric is driving development of compact power for multiple platforms. The Army Research Laboratory is addressing these needs by developing a number of underpinning power and energy component technologies that can significantly enhance Army capabilities. Electrochemical technologies in Energy Conversion and Storage as well as Energy harvesting are all active research areas within ARL and will be discussed.

Biography

Dr. Lundgren graduated with a PhD in Chemistry, 1987 U. North Carolina Chapel Hill. She joined DuPont immediately after graduation at the Experimental Station and spent most of her 17 years there in the Central Research and Development Dept., working on a variety of electrochemical programs including the lead for Electrochemical Fluorination and Fuel Cells -‐‑ catalysts. She joined the Army Research Lab in 2004 where she was hired as Chief of the Electrochemistry Branch in the Power and Energy Division. She is currently Acting Chief of the Energy and Power Division.
