UM Launches New Cybersecurity Center
At the opening of the University of Maryland's new Cybersecurity Center, the urgency of its mission was underscored by the ongoing WikiLeaks-related cyber attacks and the announcement of new legislation to create and implement national best practices and standards for cybersafety.
Alumna Duong Speaks at Commencement
 Anh Duong (B.S. '82, chemical engineering), director of the Borders and Maritime Security Division in the Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate, was the Clark School's winter 2010 commencement speaker. Commencement was held on December 19 in the Cole Student Activities Building.
Former EWB Advisor Honored
 Deborah Goodings, chair of civil and environmental engineering at George Mason University, has been recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario and the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers with their 2010 Engineering Excellence Award. Goodings, who is originally from Canada, was advisor to the Clark School's Engineers Without Borders chapter and co-director of the Master of Engineering and Public Policy Program. She became chair of civil and environmental engineering at George Mason University in 2009.
Registration Now Open: 3rd Annual WIE DREAM Conference, February 26
All high school students are invited to attend the Clark School's Women in Engineering DREAM Conference on February 26, 2011. Through interactive workshops, discussions and demonstrations, participants will be immersed in an exciting learning environment with the goal of igniting interest in engineering. Students who attend and then are admitted to the Clark School are eligible for a DREAM Scholarship up to $2,500.

Clark School Alumni Spotlight: Alumnus Wins NASA Silver Snoopy Award
 Edward Schmidt (B.S. '77, mechanical engineering) received NASA's "Silver Snoopy" award for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety and mission success. He was a lead design engineer on all five Hubble Telescope servicing and repair missions. Schmidt is pictured at right, receiving the award from astronaut Richard Arnold (also a UM alum).
