Career Fair Highlights

Sponsored by SECU and in partnership with MyWorkster.com, one of the premiere job fair development agencies in the country, the University of Maryland is proud to welcome up to 70 employers to campus for this inaugural alumni only career fair. Professional Development Seminars

In collaboration with various experts in their fields, the University of Maryland has contracted with some of the best presenters in the area to lead one-hour seminars on the following topics. Each topic will be presented twice throughout the day. Also, please note that there will be a 15 minute break between each session. Personal Branding: Whether you are starting your first job or have been in the workforce for many years, building and maintaining a personal brand is important to success. This seminar will provide tips and tricks to help you build your personal brand and maintain it throughout your career.

Storytelling: This seminar focuses on individuals with five plus years of experience that want to tell prospective employers their experience(s) in a cohesive, impactful way. The instructor creates an innovative and active atmosphere that allows you to formulate your story. This seminar is a two-hour session.

Networking: The word networking is exciting for some, frightening for others, but is necessary in today’s career development landscape. Fortunately, it is something we all do on a daily basis but may not realize it. This seminar geared towards people that “fear” the word networking, demystifying the process and providing real, tangible, and easy ways to network with confidence.

Consulting: One of the most frequently asked questions from job seekers is “Is a consulting career right for me?” This seminar will this potential career path and identifying the benefits of being your own boss as well as the pitfalls many consultants encounter during their careers.

Career Coaching: Another frequently asked question “Should I hire a career coach?” This seminar will provide some insight on what a career coach really does and help you answer you answer this question for yourself.

Social Media: Whether you are social media savvy or just exploring the opportunites socali media can have in your career development, this seminar will explain what Linked In, Facebook, and Pinterest are and how to best utilize these tools for your job search activities and overall career development.

Financial Planning: One of the biggest stressors when an individual is unemployed, underemployed, or a recent career changer is the financial aspect. This seminar is geared towards people who may have had a change in their income (either positively or negatively) and would like guidance on potential next steps to ensure their money is being spent effectively and efficiently.

Any one attending the Career Fair/Professional Development Day that signs up for the day’s events by 3/1/13 will be entered into a drawing to win 2 suite tickets to the Maryland/North Carolina game the evening of 3/6/13. Winner will be announced and contacted by 3/2/13
