Separating Technology from Politics: The Fall of the Soviet Bloc and Nuclear Reactor Safety
Thomas Wellock, Historian, Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Please join us to discuss an article that traces how a U.S. story becomes an international one with conventions, multiple transnational agencies and organizations, and research programs. The article forms part of a larger book project about the history of efforts by regulators to prevent severe accidents at nuclear power plants.
Dr. Wellock seeks feedback on his argument, context, and overall presentation of the subject.
Please email Betsy Mendelsohn to request a copy of Dr. Wellock's paper in advance or to join the MCHOTSE listserv. Refreshments at 4:00pm. After a brief presentation, we will enjoy an hour of discussion with the author.
MCHOTSE is the Maryland Colloquium on the History of Technology, Science and Environment; during 2012-2013, it is supported by the Dept. of History, the Miller Center for Historical Studies, and the Science Technology & Society programs sponsored by the School of Engineering.
