Sirius Satellite Radio Co-Founder to be Inducted into Clark School Innovation Hall of Fame

WHAT: The A. James Clark School of Engineering inducts its 2010 honoree into the Innovation Hall of Fame, which celebrates technological innovations by Clark School alumni, faculty and friends and serves as an inspiration to students. Past members pioneered such technologies as the universal product code (bar code), pulse Doppler radar, the flexible coronary artery stent and the Prius hybrid drivetrain.

WHO: Robert Briskman (M.S. '61, electrical engineering) created the innovative technologies, formally known as Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service, that enable efficient satellite transmission of continuous radio programming to mobile and fixed receivers. To build and implement the service, he co-founded Sirius Satellite Radio. The service was the first major development in radio in decades, providing the first subscription-based, advertising-free model and programming that was consistent across the country.
