Lathrop to Head IREAP

Professor Daniel Lathrop

Professor Daniel Lathrop

Daniel Lathrop, associate professor of physics, will become acting director of the Institute for Research for Electronics and Applied Physics (IREAP).

The post was vacated earlier this year by Patrick O'Shea, who has become the chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Lathrop's research interests include magnetorotational instabillity, turbulent dissipation, magnetoturbulence and dynamos, strongly nonlinear surface waves, ingassing in breaking waves, and chaotic light-scattering.

"Dr. Lathrop is an outstanding experimental physicist whose research lab in IREAP attracts international attention," said Clark School Dean Nariman Farvardin.

IREAP is a joint institute of the Clark School and the School of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences.

A search for a permanent director for IREAP will begin in September.
