Clark School Donors Exceed $100M Milestone

Dean Nariman Farvardin announced to the Clark School's Board of Visitors on May 6 that the Clark School has raised more than $100 million of its $185 million Great Expectations campaign goal.

The Clark School is raising money for undergraduate scholarships and especially graduate student fellowships, new research programs, professorships and teaching programs, and new facilities. See the Great Expectations web site for a complete description of Clark School giving priorities.

The Clark School reached the $100 million milestone in March of this year, after less than three years of the seven allotted for the Great Expectations campaign. As of April 30, the school had raised a total of $108,681,321.

In its last campaign—"Bold Vision, Bright Future"—the Clark School raised $63 million, exceeding its goal, in seven years. Dean Farvardin noted that this achievement required 10,000 gifts, and that the same broad support would be required for the Great Expectations goal.

The dean recognized many of the recent gifts that made exceeding the milestone possible including:

  • The Barbara J. Dieter Scholarship Endowment in Mechanical Engineering and Women in Engineering
  • Support from the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation for nanoscale biochip research
  • The Marilyn Berman Pollans Endowment to Inspire Future Women Engineers
  • The establishment of the Hillman Entrepreneurs Program by the Hillman Family Foundation
  • The William and Gabrielle Korab Endowment to Support the Keystone Academy
  • The Charles A. Irish, Sr., Scholarship Endowment and Support for the Clark School
  • Support for the Clark School by Emilio Fernandez
  • The Harry K. Wells Graduate Fellowship in the University of Maryland Energy Research Center
  • The Willis H. Young Faculty Fellowship in Aerospace Engineering
  • The Patrick and Marguerite Sung Professorship and Distinguished Professorship in Chemical Engineering
  • And gifts from Dick and Eleanor Reed, Steve and Miriam Dubin, Ron and Karen Lowman, Mark and Karen Huston, Bill and Pamela Koffell, Tom and Susan Scholl, and Professor and Associate Dean Bill Fourney and his wife Connie.
