University of Maryland Pres. C.D. Mote, Jr., will speak at the American Society of Engineering Education's Engineering Deans Council Public Policy Colloquium on Feb. 14 at the National Academies Building in Washington, D.C.

Mote will address U.S. competitiveness in his speech "Rising Above the Gathering Storm."

"Competitiveness is the key to our economic prosperity, we simply can't afford to let it flag," Mote says. "Scientists at the University of Maryland and other research institutions are developing revolutionary new technologies that will shape the latter part of this century. We need to be working on the ground floor."

Attendance is limited to Engineering Deans Council members only. The National Academies report "Rising Above the Gathering Storm: Energizing and Employing America for a Brighter Economic Future" is online at http://books.nap.edu/catalog/11463.html.

Mote is an engineer by training and a Glenn L. Martin Institute Professor of Engineering at the Clark School. The National Academy of Engineering recently awarded Mote with its Founders Award.
