Experts to Discuss Protecting Marine Environments

Three experts in civil and environmental engineering will deliver the Charles and Helen White Symposium on Engineering Innovation on Thursday, October 4, at 5 p.m. in the Kim Engineering Building lecture hall.

Keynote speaker Enrique Castillo, professor of applied mathematics at the University of Cantabria (Spain), will be joined by William Marcuson, president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and Frank Hamons, deputy director for harbor development at the Maryland Port Administration.

The symposium, "Innovation: Enhancing and Protecting Our Environment," will explore innovation in geotechnical engineering and advances in the handling of slurries and grouts. Presentations will address harbor dredging, port construction, strengthening of eroding islands, and the environmental and economic impact of such work in the Chesapeake Bay and around the world.

Immediately preceding the symposium will be the Clark School's Innovation Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, where Raymond Krizek, M.S. '61, will be honored for his work in geotechnical engineering. The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Innovation Hall of Fame in the Kim Building’s north corridor.
