Clark School Student Tapp Qualifies for National Youth Pageant

Maeling Tapp has won the Suburban Maryland Youth Pageant of America and will go on to compete in the national pageant in August 2005. The pageant promotes "not only a young woman's outward appearance, but also her values, personality, individuality, appreciation for family, intelligence, poise, and leadership and communication skills." Tapp is pursuing degrees in engineering and Spanish, is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers, and plans to pursue a career in nanotechnology. Her interest in engineering was inspired by her participation in a summer program offered by Women In Engineering, a Clark School initiative.
