Clark School Holds 2008 Commencement

The Clark School held its spring commencement ceremony on May 23 at the Comcast Center. Speakers included Clark School Board of Visitors member Ray O. Johnson, and graduating triple major Ermin Wei (computer engineering, math and finance).

Two awards were announced at the ceremony. Sandra Greer, professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering with a joint appointment in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, was named this year's recipient of the Poole & Kent Outstanding Teaching Award for Senior Faculty.

Greer was honored for her advocacy for, and teaching of, research ethics and professional ethics; for her teaching of chemistry to engineers; for her mentoring of undergraduates in research; and for her commitment to improving the climate for female students.

Prof. Rick McCuen, civil and environmental engineering, was named this year's winner of the Clark School's Faculty Service Award. McCuen was recognized for his work with the Clark School Honors Program, the Future Faculty program, high school outreach, mentoring and his previous service as associate dean for undergraduate studies.

Neither Greer nor McCuen were available to accept their awards due to prior commitments.

The commencement ceremony was followed by a reception for all of the graduates and their families and friends, hosted by the Engineering Alumni Chapter and the Clark School departments.
