Clark School Researchers Earn TEDCO Grants

Two groups of researchers with Clark School connections have been awarded grants from the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) to determine the commercial viability of their respective technologies.

One $15,000 award went to Greg Payne, a scientist at the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute, who is working on a chitosan biosensor chip technology begun with Fischell Distinguished Professor and bioengineering Chair William Bentley. The research has potential uses in biodefense and point-of-care applications.

Fire protection engineering Chair Marino di Marzo received another award toward his fire protection for vehicles technology, which can be installed in passenger and other vehicles to help suppress fires in the engine compartment or prevent a fire from starting.
