Chang Awarded $1.23M for Traffic System
The Maryland State Highway Administration and the Federal Highway Administration have awarded civil engineering Professor Gang-Len Chang $1.23 million for the design and implementation of a real-time traffic monitoring and prediction system for travel to and from Ocean City, Md.
Chang's Traffic Safety and Operations Lab will conduct the project.
The entire project includes operating 40 radar sensors in the Eastern Shore region, developing algorithms for optimizing signal controls in the regional highway networks, providing predicted travel times based on detected traffic conditions and monitoring evacuation traffic flows during major or emergency events such as hurricane attacks.
