Barbe Receives ASEE Outstanding Entrepreneurship Educator Award

On Tuesday, June 24, 2003, Professor David Barbe, executive director of the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (MTECH) and professor of electrical and computer engineering was awarded the first American Society of Engineering Education Outstanding Entrepreneurship Educator Award.

Dr. Barbe received this award in recognition of his leadership and innovation in engineering and high-technology entrepreneurship education, and for the breadth and impact of these programs, which include the Hinman CEOs, the Business Plan Competition, the Technology Start-up Boot Camp and the VentureAccelerator Programs.

Under Dr. Barbe leadership, these Clark School programs are recognized as being among the most dynamic, innovative and well-run technology entrepreneurship programs in the nation. In October 2002, the Hinman CEOs program received the Price Foundation Innovative Educators Award during the prestigious Roundtable on Entrepreneurship Education for Engineers.

"The establishment of a portfolio of successful technology entrepreneurship programs that include faculty, graduate and undergraduate students has created a strong culture of entrepreneurship in our university. This will no doubt have a profound and positive impact in the economy of our region and in the nation in the years to come," stated Dr. Nariman Farvardin, dean of the Clark School of Engineering.
