Singh Named 2011 Leading Women Award Winner

Meenu Singh, a sophomore civil engineering student at the Clark School, has been named the 2011 Leading Women Award scholarship winner by the Maryland Daily Record.

Each college or university in the state of Marylnad can nominate a freshman or sophomore woman to be considered for the award. Criteria for the award include outstanding scholarship, leadership, and a demonstrated commitment to change.

Singh, who has a 3.90 GPA, was honored for her exceptional academic performance in engineering and her deep commitment to leadership and service to the campus and local community. An Alternative Breaks participant and trip leader, Quest Honors Fellows Program participant, Residence Hall Association officer, and campus tour guide, Singh demonstrated ability to manage difficult coursework while engaging in leadership in multiple areas of the campus community.

"Meenu is the finest example of an active young scholar dedicated to learning and a deep commitment to social justice," said Marsha Guenzler-Stevens, director of the Center for Campus Life at the Adele H. Stamp Student Union. "There is no hesitation Meenu will continue to represent the best Maryland has to offer and work towards making this a more caring, just society through her leadership and commitment to social change."
