Lathrop, Chellappa Selected as Fellows

The American Association for the Advancement of Science has elected Dan Lathrop and Rama Chellappa as fellows.

Election as a Fellow of AAAS is an honor bestowed upon members by their peers. Fellows are recognized for meritorious efforts to advance science or its applications.

Lathrop is director of the Institute for Research in Engineering and Applied Physics. His current research interests include magnetorotational instabillity, turbulent dissipation, magnetoturbulence and dynamos, strongly nonlinear surface waves, ingassing in breaking waves, and chaotic light-scattering.

Chellappa is a Minta Martin Professor of Engineering interim chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His current research interests are face and gait analysis, secure biometrics, 3D modeling from video, image/video exploitation from stationary and moving platforms, compressive sensing, hyper spectral processing, and commercial applications of image processing and understanding.
