Dean's Master's Student Research Awards Announced

Dean Darryll Pines has announced the winners of the Dean's Master's Student Research Award Competition for 2012:

First Place ($1,500):

Matthew Mosteller, Institute for Systems Research:
Advisors: Professors Reza Ghodssi (also electrical and computer enginering) and Mark Austin (also civil and environmental engineering)
For outstanding research on development of a microfluidic platform for the growth, monitoring and experimental treatment of bacterial biofilms.

Second Place ($1,000):

Erica Hocking, Department of Aerospace Engineering
Advisor: Professor Norman Wereley
For outstanding research to develop and characterize small-scale actuators based on pneumatic artificial mucsle technology.

Dean Pines created the Dean's Master's Student Research Award Competition to give top Clark School master's student researchers special recognition that will be valuable in launching their careers, and to show all students the importance of high quality engineering research. Students submitted their work through competitions at the unit level. Members of departmental advisory boards served as judges for this competition.
