Melissaratos Hails Clark School's "Knowledge Economy" Role at Alumni Event

At the 2nd Annual Baltimore Alumni Networking Event at the Engineers' Club in Baltimore, featured speaker the Honorable Aristides Melissaratos, Secretary of Business & Economics for the state of Maryland, praised the part played by the Clark School of Engineering in helping make Maryland a "knowledge economy" and asked alumni to continue their vital support of the school's efforts.

The event was sponsored by the Whiting-Turner Contracting Company.

Melissaratos cited the ongoing change in Maryland from a manufacturing economy to one based on knowledge and technology, and the excellence of Maryland 's education system as key to that success. He called for still greater cooperation among the schools in Maryland's University System and between public and private institutions.

Dean Nariman Farvardin provided a brief overview of recent Clark School achievements. Also featured at the event was the university's Solar Decathlon team, led by engineering undergraduate Rob Murray.
